North Fork Scrapbook – Returning this Winter
Website to provide a platform to share the stories and lives of Colorado’s North Fork Valley.
The North Fork Scrapbook seeks to tell the stories of this place, and the unique qualities and features of the North Fork Valley, of its agricultural and public lands, and its communities and character.
The original North Fork Scrapbook is a real scrapbook in a large three-ring binder. It was compiled as a ‘Visual Comment’ to the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (“BLM”) when that agency proposed leasing public lands in Colorado’s North Fork Valley for oil and gas drilling and fracking in 2012.
This digital scrapbook, like its more traditional parent, sets out to tell the story of the North Fork’s public lands through the people and communities that interact with them daily.
After a hiatus of a few years, the North Fork Scrapbook will be returning as part of the Colorado Farm & Food Alliance’s Thriving North Fork project – which seeks to find opportunities to strengthen local opportunity and build a community for the future that is economically secure, socially equitable, and ecologically resilient.
Call for Guest “Columns“
Each Month, starting in February, the North Fork Scrapbook will feature a guest “column,” and we are inviting content. Fiction, nonfiction, art, photography are all welcome, but we encourage you to contact us first if you have an idea. Subject matter should connect with the North Fork Valley or western Colorado, and creativity is encouraged.
Food and Farm Features
We want to regularly feature the North Fork’s amazing farms, ranches, and local food scene. If your operation is worthy of an article let us know, and we’ll come by for a visit.
Events, Community News
Finally, we also want to post your North Fork events and news – and will have a form up soon to submit those. For now, send us a note through the comment link.
